Last night I spent some long deserved quality time with the best friend Rachel and her brand new baby. Seriously…where does the time go? How is a wee baby 2 weeks old and wrinkles and just 13 weeks later the cutest little chubble legged bug in the entire world? And how do best friends not see each other for such a long period of time? Life is busy, but friendships are important too. So following with that theme…today for lunch? I met up with a few like minded League ladies at Betty’s…Chris, Audrey, Johnna (not a leaguer…but a like minded soul) and my sissy-in-law and Toddler A joined as well! Delicious food and a nice break from the routine of breaking for lunch. (You mean you can eat lunch away from the computer at your cubicle?) And this evening, since 14221 has been around this week, we quickly scheduled in a dinner meet up for sushi and martini’s on Elmwood.
Mark was the meat to round up the delicious Jen sandwich. Jen 14221 is one of my favorite people, and it is always a treat to meet up with her. If you haven’t met her in person yet, you are missing out.
Gee, what have I learned this week so far?
1. Work does not have to be all consuming!

2. Community commitments do not have to be my only social outlet!
Although I love both parts of my life so, sometimes it is just good to step away for a while, breathe in the spring air and renew the spirit with lazy time spent with others, for no purpose but to…to be. And the same goes for the blog…I could post and post and post, but I would rather curl up in bed with my very handsome spousal equivalent and read for the rest of the night. Ta ta!
Prediabetes Prevention
“When people with prediabetes engaged in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, they lowered their risk of full-blown diabetes by almost 60%.”
“Research shows that losing just 7% of your body weight can lower blood sugar and reduce your risk of developing
diabetes even better than taking preventive medicine.”
Stress Relief
“So many of us strive to move onward and upward, but I began to see that the path to joy starts with an entirely different approach: inward and downward to root- and then toward the light, upward and forward.”
10 Secrets to a Stress Free Life by Kathleen Hall
1. Start Small.
Change one thing at a time? I’m always all or nothing…maybe that’s the problem, it’s usually nothing!2. Connect.
Put friendship in your life, schedule dates with others. Yes, I need to do more of this, like this week.3. Focus on now.
Don’t multitask? One job, one person at a time…is more mindful? Actually I am wired to multi-task, I feel more accomplished this way, or so I think…4. Write it out. My GOD do I feel better after doing morning pages or journaling, if only I could write down everything…
5. Own the news.
Use what you learn to become part of the solution. Excellent! Not turn it off, but USE what you LEARN. I like this. I am one who feels better when KNOWING. When I am out of the know, I feel off balanced. If only I could add an extra hour to my day every day to catch up with politics, current events and news.6. Walk softly.
Ooooh, I need to start doing this. Clod, clod, clod…as well as SPEAK softly, which is difficult as well.7. Try a mini meditation.
Keep a peaceful image at hand, memorize a three word mantra. I need more peaceful pictures methinks.8. Love your commute.
Heck yeah, what commute? I live less than 2 miles from work? Mark and I have pondered the idea of walking now that the weather is nicer, but that requires getting out of bed in the morning. Which is hard.to.do.9. Take stock.
List of things that bring you joy and list of things that drain your energy…do this everyday for a week and match up the list. Hmmm. Interesting.10. Practice gratitude.
5 minutes a day to give thanks for all the gifts in your life…yes, this would be a good thing to do too.
TIP (Otherwise known as I really want to start a garden…)
“After brewing coffee at home, don’t throw out the grounds. Acid loving plants such as azaleas, gardenias, hisbiscus, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, roses and tomatoes will thrive come spring and summer if you add the coffee leftovers to their surrounding soil”

Your Result: Social Nerd
You’re interested in things such as politics, psychology, child care, and peace. I wouldn’t go so far as to call you a hippie, but some of you may be tree-huggers. You’re the type of people who are interested in bettering the world. You’re possible the least nerdy of them all; unless you participate in other activies that paled your nerdiness compared to your involvement in social activities. Whatever the case, we could still use more of you around. |

BREAKING NEWS: BASS PRO DONE DEAL Am I supposed to say YAY? I feel like saying, Good LORD what took so long? The BASS PRO webpage has Buffalo listed as a *future store announcement* dated back to November 29, 2004. From the Buffalo News:
“This is the real deal. We have money, we have a developer and this is going to happen,” said a member of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. board of directors, which negotiated the agreement. The vote will take place at a special meeting of the harbor development panel scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. The agreement is “a completely different animal” than the Memorandum of Understanding, unveiled with great fanfare in November 2004, according to the panel member, who confirmed the deal on the condition of anonymity. “The ’04 announcement was made on a wing and a prayer and it turned out to be just another plan, just another photo opportunity. This is based in reality,” the source added.
Just as long as the official announcement isn’t made on SUNDAY.
