I belong to estrip.org and went at the last minute. The part that I don't understand is why where the tables for bloggers all the way in the back where they where tough to find. They should have been up front by the door and a sign could have said bloggers area. That way if you where a blogger the second you walked in you would know where to go. Also this would have been a sign to non bloggers who could come up and ask like I want to blog but am not sure what site to go to and then they could get some feedback. The other thing is the chairs should have said reserved on them also. What good are the tables without chairs. I do think that what was done was a good idea but it could have been run a lot better. One idea for next time that doesn't have to do with blogging is to see if you can get ladies dressed as Beer Wenchs to go around and serve Polish (since the food was polish) and Germen beer in big steins for money. You could even have them be say $20 and then you keep them and then refills cost a certain price. I was hoping to meet some other bloggers but I didn't maybe there is something I missed if so someone please let me know.

I would've thought the old stereotype about bloggers/computer geeks being pathologically averse to real-life human contact was outdated, but either no other Buffalo Bloggers besides e:strip and Punaro could actually be pried away from their computers long enough to leave the house, or the prospect of speaking to strangers overwhelmed all the other Buffalo Bloggers.

I know the e:strippers can be kind of a close-knit cliquey group, but we don't bite and we'd've been happy to talk to other people... But I was so uncomfortable there, the way all the middle-aged surburbanite ladies were staring disapprovingly at me, that I really couldn't tell whether any of them were trying to socially network or not, and it did a real number on my propensity to happily meet new people. I mean, I'm not shy, but who'd've thought a Ye Olde Busty Beer Wench costume would get so many disapproving glares? At OKTOBERFEST! My skirt was longer than that old dude's lederhosen! Come on. I've never been so disapproved of in my life.

I really won't be terribly eager to show up to any more Buffalo Blogging events in the future-- there's nothing quite so uncomfortable as being told there's a party and then having the person who told you about it not show up. It's an unpleasant timewarp back to junior high. At least when e:paul hosts a party at his house, you know he'll be there.

Two very confused bloggers arrived promptly at 6pm. 'Are we in the right place?' Two tables sat reserved and unused in the corner of someone else's event. Middle-aged Cheektowagans, many of whom had never heard the word 'blog' before, eyed the empty chairs. 'Can we take these?' 'You'll have to find the person in charge.' 'Who's that?' Who indeed?

Roll call: Mr. and Mrs. Punaro http://punaro.com were there, and also seemed to be the only people who knew what was going on. We were told Michael Rebmann http://nbjr.speakupwny.com was 'here somewhere, I think ...'

Meanwhile e:strip http://estrip.org managed to send a full delegation on short notice [e:dragonlady7 e:james e:jim e:libertad e:metalpeter e:mike e:paul e:terry e:zobar] and then hauled our asses out to Youngstown for another e:strip event [+ e:theecarey e:vincent]. I filed a motion with e:paul to change motto to 'e:strip - the blogging community that organizes events … and then goes to them.'

Well, I convinced a bunch of bloggers from estrip.org to show up in order to try and meet the other bloggers in Buffalo. When we first got their I didn't realize that it was also the Buffalo October fest. We though, holy crap, there are so many bloggers in Buffalo - we totally undestimated the bloggin' population.

e:jim noted that when he saw so many elderly people, he was astounded that blogging had reached such a huge number of Buffalo's older population.

Then once inside we realized that it was actually just October fest and that there was a table for bloggers - our 8 peeps were pretty much being the only people at the table.

There was also an estrip.org birthday party that night way out at a house in Youngstown, so we ended up leaving after a bratwurst and just heading over there for a bonfire.

[...] All Things Jennifer has made this one an annual event. It’s a Terminal thing, so we’ll be there. Will you? You don’t need to be a blogger! The Central Terminal’s annual Oktoberfest celebration is a party for everyone! Guaranteed to be a great time, as always. German food, German music, and German beer - both authentic and Flying Bison’s own seasonal brew. Rumor has it, there may even be a wench or two. [...]
