Should Fund Raisers Get Linkedin?

Gayle Roberts, a fund-raising consultant in San Francisco, is encouraging fund raisers to use social-networking Web sites to garner donors and job opportunities.

On her blog, Ms. Roberts writes that she signed up for one such site, Linkedin, less than a month ago, and it led to a job offer to lead a $45-million capital campaign.

“Though Linkedin has a reputation for being dominated by the tech industry, I think perhaps those of us working in nonprofit fund raising can also benefit from its use,” she writes.

To take advantage of Linkedin, Ms. Roberts suggests nonprofit workers keep their profiles up to date, invite friends to join, and sign up for the free account — while paid Linkedin subscribers have more options available to them, Ms. Roberts writes that fund raisers probably won’t need them at first.

Looks like I’ll be working on expanding my network! Are you LinkedIn?
