Bloggerfest…
September 23, 2007
So the Bloggerfest wasn’t anything like last year.
I’m VERY glad to see that the E-Strip Bloggers attended, even for just a little bit. (Even at the last minute when I had no idea to spread the word to the Central Terminal contacts Derek and Mike) Apologies to anyone who came out and felt shunned by the blogging community, which was entirely not intended.
In the defense of many, many Buffalo Bloggers, I had this post up on my blog and as you can see from the comments VERY FEW PEOPLE RESPONDED which meant no one was able to attend. (Please look at this post or this post or this post or this post to see an example of people who have responded in the past to blogger events.)
In fact, earlier this week I blogged about this very fact and three people responded. I also mentioned that this event was first and foremost a Central Terminal fundraiser that bloggers would be attending.
Jen 14221 was nice enough to put a flyer together and initiate the whole idea and I publicized a get-together and volunteered to be the contact and no one was able to show up.
Several bloggers have been talking about trying to get people together for sometime and the comments are few and fewer in between, unlike last year, this event was a quick attempt to try to get a group of us together, since it had been a long time.
So, I’m sorry I wasn’t there, (actually I’m not sorry, I was sick all week) and I told this to anyone who emailed me. And actually, this time, I never even said I would be there when posting the event in the first place.
What else do people expect?
I’m one of the few out there who INITIALLY started to bring the Buffalo Bloggers together and still somehow end up trying years later. BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER. Network, collaborate…one of the good guys.
I might be All Things in my own blog world, but I can only know the information I am given from other people in the community…especially new people and groups out there who might be interested in meeting too.
On a less defensive note…
A few of us have decided upon a December date for an actual Blogger get together. And no, I haven’t posted anything about it yet or sent out any emails, but it has been mentioned a few places, again to little fanfare and reposting.
So what’s going on Buffalo Bloggers? Cause I gotta tell ya, I LOVE planning parties and events. I really, really do. And I have always, always tried to be accommodating with dates and times to bring the most people together. (Geez, I even invited bloggers I didn’t even KNOW yet to a personal New Years Brunch at my house, how much more accommodating can I be?) But if people in the community aren’t responding? What can I do?
I guess I can keep on trying…thank you to all who try with me.
I wanted to go, but my schedule is ridiculous. One of these days I hope to meet some of these bloggers I keep reading about.

Sorry you weren’t feeling well and weren’t able to attend. I’m not blaming any single person for why it didn’t take off, I think it was just the lack of having an actual coordinator. I guess I was more surprised than anything else since there’s generally a dozen people or so that show up to any given event, and there hasn’t been one in awhile.
Maybe we should do a study on whether intermittent online site hosting issues affect the offline social networking abilities of said sites’ users.
Feel better!
There is an upside to the low attendance by bloggers, there was plenty of beer to last all night
@Christine – I can understand someone having the need to work, that is a priority. But, come on, attending an event at the Central Terminal is NOT a crime-ridden experience. I have even – gasp – stopped my car on Paderewski, halfway between Filmore and the Terminal, got out and walked a block or so while shooting photos . . .and I live to tell about it!
Derek- oh please know that I never meant to assume that you were blaming people…all day today (in between checking fantasy football stats) I have been getting comments on the original post from the estrip bloggers and this is where my post above originated. You provided a most excellent round up on your blog of the evening!
I agree, the lack of any actual coordinator added to the problem of no one being able to attend. It was brought up a while back and finally Jen 14221 made up a flyer for anyone who could attend. This event was not organized like last year (or like the one we are trying to plan for Dec)
Mike—-you crack me up!
More beer for you! Also, I agree with you about the Terminal, but had I been the person I was 10 years ago I would have found myself not as willing to attend at first too. Last year was my first time and I ended up LOVING it!
Jen, so sorry you couldn’t make it. We missed you!
We thought about going, but after our wine tour (nice wineries in Niagara County-check them out) we were too pooped. I did have lots of fun last year, and we really do need to get together.
It just feels like everybody’s too tired to quarterback the whole thing. We need a big toe.
Yeah, unfortunately I was out of town (which I stated on my blog when I posted the info about the event). :-/
I completely forgot about the event. Totally. It wasn’t on my radar screen until I read this post. I’m not sure I could have made it — I need to save money for a big weekend coming up — but geez, I keep telling myself that I want to see the Terminal and I keep complaining about the lack of BuffBlog meet-ups, so I dropped the ball a bit here.
Dearest Jen:
1. This comment will probably not show up, like so many of my others, due to the fact that your spam blocker does not like me.
It seems to like Mike now.
2. You did what you could and there was less than stellar turnout.
Such is life. It is certainly no reflection on you. Sometimes these things happen.
3. I would absolutely love to get together with you guys again, but you seem to be sick a lot lately. But if you agree to be non-contagious for an evening, we can do it.
I am still being blocked so I will save comments until such time as we meet again. I will put them on little post it notes and carry them with me everywhere I go.
HA! your blocker doesn’t hate me, it just hates my website!
Anyhow, you did your best to put this thing together, and there was less than stellar turnout. Such is life. It is certainly no reflection on you, or your planning skills. If I was not in Phoenix (more on that later) I would have been there with the boy.
As for the crime at the terminal, the only thing that makes me nervous is when I see that white Porsche hanging around….
We had a fairly good excuse- lack of babysitter. Granted we could have brought a fussy tired toddler with us….
