Quick Predictions!

January 3, 2008

Ah, I think the Iowa Folk will choose:

Democrats:
1. Edwards
2. Clinton
3. Obama

(I would prefer seeing Obama first out of these three, but…Edwards has been running for President in Iowa since 2000, or something. Where’s Richardson? Why Edwards at all?)

Republicans:
1. Huckabee
2. Romney
3. McCain/Paul

(Ugh. I just can’t wrap myself around Romney, he has too much of a shinyhappyKerry feeling for me. All $$$ and negative ads. I’d like to see a surprise out of nowhere John-Ron-Rudy trio. Ha ha ha!)

What do you think???

8:01 Update: Oh God…Wolf just said the words “long night” I wish I could move the bed and big cozy Korean blanket into the middle room where the TV and computer are. My head hurts and my throat is on fire. Tired, I am.

My God what did people do before 25 hour new networks and live-blogging? HOW DID OUR DEMOCRACY SURVIVE!!!

8:09 Oh no, am I live blogging the caucuses but without anything to say? *Yes, yes I am.*

BREAKING NEWS!!!

8:11 and the first instance of the John Edwards “mill” speech on CNN!

8:16 Damn it, Mark’s home early and totally immersed in my nerdiness. I just gave him the 2 second what the hell is a caucus anyway sound bite and then started laughing out loud after reading this quote on ABC’s Live Blog.

7:08 pm CT: We’re hearing from an aide to an outside interest group who’s at Valley High School in West Des Moines — and they’re reporting record turnout at the Democratic caucus. They expected 200 — they’re getting 250.

I mean, this is small town dramatic reporting at it’s finest! RECORD TURNOUT AT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL 250 PEOPLE INSTEAD OF 200!

8:19 and 27 seconds Laughing. Hurts. Ow.

8:20 Oops. RETRACT RETRACT!

7:15 pm CT: Make that 419 (!) people in West Des Moines at that high school, another strong indicator for Obama.

8:21 CNN’s Soledad O’Brien just said the word “early” I think 4 times in a row when discussing, um, all this exciting stuff we are discussing!

8:26 Mark gets his predictions in under the wire. Sadly, he claims to predict the exact same order I did in order to get out of my oddly “by-God stubborn” competitive streak.

8:30 Top Vocabulary Words Used During Live Caucus Reporting on CNN

1. Cajoling
2. Viable
3. Threshold
4. Fascinating
5. Unfold
6. High Def Dollar
7. Insurgent
8. “Lemonade and Tea”

I’m bored. Time for pictures.

Happy Iowa Caucus Day!Happy Iowa Caucus Day!

8:56 CNN projects Huckabee wins! Wolf Blitzer calls it “a dramatic, dramatic development.”

8:59 All Things Jennifer says out loud “Put a Conservative Christian in New Hampshire next Tuesday and see what happens….Huckabee wins tonight, knocks Romney off his high horse and let’s see who comes out as the front runner for the Republicans.”

9:13 I think I’m over it. The Republican numbers keep flip flopping for Thompson and McCain and Giuliani is close there too. Not what I predicted.

Oooh…Obama in the lead, something else I didn’t forsee.

9:28 And Obama wins!

As Mark says “that’s not who you said right…” Smartass. ;)

However it is what I wanted to happen! I am soooooooooo not a Clinton fan (foremost) nor an Edwards fan (secondmost?)

“I’m sure Clinton would have preferred to lose to Edwards.” Sayeth a CNN Talking Head. All Things Jennifer smiles with glee.

9:33 Oh yeah, I’m so predicting Obama in New Hampshire.

9:39 I’m wondering if the “Iowans who love Celine Dion” fan club hired Karl Rove and had something to do with Hillary’s loss.

9:44 Thompson? Really? I read that if he didn’t come in 3rd he might drop out tonight, why is he coming in 3rd?

10:28 Ok, I was just about to say that Hillary Clinton is giving a smart speech and then she said “and Republicans who have seen the light.” Now it’s truly time for bed. Have fun in 3rd place Mrs. Clinton.

Oh, and McCain’s back in 3rd so it’s a good time to sign off.

10:36 I’m still here, *why* but Chris Dodd is not. Seriously go to bed already! *I’m talking to myself!* Please Chris Dodd make my night by endorsing, oh, Kucinich or something and NOT HILLARY.

10:40 I think I’m off to bed and then I hallucinate that Chuck Norris is holding an “I Lick Mike” throwback sign from the days that Mike Seaver (aka Kirk Cameron) ran for Class President.

10:50 Still up after Googling *Chuck Norris Wife* although I did put in *Mike Huckabee Wife* first, only to find out that either the #1 in Iowa is truly, truly a Conservative Christian or into S&M, at least in 1988.

10:51 Man, now I’m being tempted to hear Obama’s remarks. Although I really, really, really, really should go to bed. I can YouTube the remarks tomorrow.

Hey, that scarf looks great! (Even if I am saying so myself.) The length looks perfect.

Also, I don’t have cable so I have no idea what happened with the caucus. Thanks for keeping me up to date.

Outstanding post. I especially love that you worked a Kirk Cameron reference into a post about Iowa Caucuses. Fantastic work!

All I can say is that I was energized by the Obama speech. I was so damn excited for him last night. Not to mention that from a strictly graphic design point he has my vote. I thought also that Hillary played her speech just right.

  4. Not sure if my incoherent mumblings counted as keeping someone up to date, but it sure was fun trying! ;)

Andi—I do believe Kirk and the coalition of children are most likely campaigning for Huckabee this very second.

And Dayna- I did stay up for Obama’s speech and I was all “Let Freedom Ring and Play Ball” teary eyed afterwards! He sounded fantastic. And his wife has nice “back” as Mark might have pointed out….that ass man of mine. ;)

    Kirk Cameron’s children aren’t a coalition, they’re an army.

I didn’t see any of the speeches, but I’m delighted that Obama pulled it off and Hillary came in 3rd. Makes it a little more fun going into NH.

I enjoyed all of your updates- even though Iowa doesn’t mean much in the long run. I’d like to see Rudy get right in the middle of everything. Anything but CLINTON! YUCK!
