Things to Do Before the New Year

Eek! When I saw this post I had second thoughts about opening it…however it turns out I’ve done most of these things already! HAVE YOU? NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT!

10 Things to Do Before the New Year

Plan for a successful New Year. Do a review of your work and see how you can make the next year a better one.

Been starting on this…thank you to Dayna for the first step—making the call. I mean in my personal work not professional.

Clean your email box. Challenge yourself to reach inbox zero, or if you have thousands of messages, shoot for half. Delete newsletters, unsubscribe to newsletters you never read, file emails that require no further action on your part and address those that do.

This one is EASY for me. I pretty much aim for an empty email box everyday. I also have a chronic delete problem, so I know I’m not like most.  I also started deleting newsletters that come to my Yahoo account a few months ago, I must have unsubscribed to at least 50 things! I would check my inbox and see 20 messages and open one and delete. Annoying. Tis much better now!

Update your resume and bio. It helps to update these on a regular basis as you take on more challenging projects or work with new clients. While you’re at it, review your LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and other social media profiles to ensure they’re up to date.

Always! :)

Organize your workstation. Take a look at your work area and see if there are improvements you can make.

Um, I’ll do that as soon as I get back to work, next year!

Take care of administrative tasks.

Again, something I will do as soon as I get to work after vacation.

Review your address book. Consolidate your contacts, back them up and archive old contacts. Verify you have contact information that you need and put those business cards into your address book.

Just did this for my personal account when getting addresses for Christmas Cards that I never sent out (oops!) Professionally, will do next year!

Review your social media strategy. “The Internet was not meant for marketing and selling but for communication and connection to people and information.”

I did this recently as well when I deleted my personal Twitter account. Maybe I didn’t need to put every little thing up there…after all I had it set to private for quite sometime which meant I let very few people follow me in the first place. I sometimes find myself the last month wanting to *Tweet* something but figure in general, it can wait until I have access to Facebook or my Blog if it is worth mentioning at all.

How generous, the Metro Rail will stay open until 2 am WHEN THE BARS ARE FREAKING OPEN UNTIL 4 AM! WTF? Get with the damn program NFTA! How about being PART OF THE SOLUTION to bring people downtown and safely home? Grrr.

Collins edges toward governor’s race

So really, you don’t have to do anything to run for Governor but have money. No surprise there. Grrr. politics.

Revenues drop at Seneca Gaming

Aw, boo hoo to the Gambling Machine.

Whiteouts!

Of course, Murphy’s Law—-when you want something you don’t get it. Or something like that.  Let it Snow for Christmas? Nyah.

Let it SNOW on Birthday Eve when I’m ready to go to the Southtowns to spend the night with my favorite little person in the entire world and play with the gifts Santa brought while her Mama has a night out with the girls…and then bake a Cherry Chip Birthday cake in the morning and play in the snow?

WHITEOUT. SKYWAY CLOSED. JACKKNIFED TRUCKS. SPINOUTS.

Whiteout…in the CITY no less.

Just my dumb luck. :(

Mind you…OF COURSE I LOVE THE SNOW. But I love my niece 1000 times more.

Winter storm lashes WNY

Facebook updates from friends.

Okay I like snow but it is snowing blowing. Lake Effect snow it is sideways. Opening warming centers for tonight. Another 4 or 5 inches over night. I like snow but not all at one time.

20 – 30 mph on the 90… arg

BOOOOO to this weather, and HATES that things have to get canceled (ie, my dinner party) as a result of it. Thanks yet again, Mother Nature. You ROCK .

Our office closed at 3:00pm today, due to the blizzard-like conditions in the city of Buffalo. What else is there to do on a long drive home in white-out conditions, than take pictures at red lights? At least it keeps the never-ending drive interesting!

snowing like crazy, took 45 mins to get home from picking the boys up. should have taking 20mins. hopefully nana and papa make it home safely. or at least to a shopping center.

The weather is deteriorating rapidly, here in Buffalo – whiteouts and spinouts, oh my!

…intensely dislikes today’s weather.

What a great day for my windsheild wipers to decide they didnt want to work anymore…

…is sipping sweet, sweet coffee in the middle of a snowstorm in balmy Buffalo, NY.

Big bucket of driving #fail in #buffalo. Left for the Galleria at 1:15, had to exit 90E @ william due to jackknifed truck. Aborted.

…is seriously displeased about the snowstorm raging out there right now.

…is watching the snow fly. Most drivers are going very slowly; if you have to go out, be careful!

Finding impossible to drag myself from my window. The whiteout is amazing, as if the world was a giant moving Robert Ryman painting.

Current weather report …. Blurrrrrrrryyyyy!

WTF?

I hate Facebook ads. (And Yahoo ads.)

I especially hate the ones that say “Obama tells MOMS to go back to school!” with the dancing silhouette of a naked lady.

WTF is this? (As DeeDee pointed out a few weeks ago…)
