Calling all friends of Niagara Falls!

Untitled

Dear Friends of the NACC,

The City of Niagara Falls has voted to cut all funding for the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, although the budget item had already been passed. We have a chance to reverse the decision- but we need your help!

We are asking the community to come to Niagara Falls City Hall to speak on behalf of the NACC. We need people to speak about how the NACC has impacted the community as well as people to sit in the audience to show support.

ONE VOTE is all we need to preserve the Historic Niagara Falls High School and keep the NACC in the community.

Can you come to show your support on Feb 4th, at 7pm?

(Meet us 6:45 PM First Floor Council chamber.)

Really? Buffalo is one of America’s Economically Strongest Metro Areas?

Wow. I feel bad for everywhere else if we are considered one of the STRONG regions. Tell that to the many, many friends of mine looking for jobs.

America’s Economically Strongest Metro Areas

Strongest metro: Buffalo-Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Change in real gross metro product since peak: -0.9 percent
Change in no. of jobs since peak: -2.8 percent
Unemployment rate (Mar 2011): 8.1 percent
Change in housing prices since peak: -5.9 percent

This is TERRIFYING why are we not UP IN ARMS?

Artvoice: Welcome to Chernobyl

The map on the facing page measures exposure rates to radiation in the Ukraine as a result of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. The areas in red measure up to 20 microroentgens per hour. These are the exclusion zones, where people are not supposed to live or travel.

In the mid-1970s, the federal government commissioned a company called EG&G to perform an aerial radiation survey conducted 300 feet above the roadways of Niagara County. The survey identified dozens of hotspots near the Whirlpool, around the golf course, along Lewiston Road and Buffalo Avenue, and elsewhere around the city. Some of these peaked at 86 microroentgens per hour.

OH MY GOD!

How are we not OUTRAGED over this information? I’ve been spending lots of time in Niagara County these days…just becoming aware of the enormity of this situation has me ready to spit fire…
